I am a wife, mother and university qualified teacher (Master of Teaching degree) living in Sydney, Australia who is passionate about simplifying the Quran to non-Arabic speakers!

Alhamdulillah, at the age of 19, I completed my memorisation of the Quran. It truly was one of the most meaningful milestones of my life.

I grew up in a household dedicated to learning and implementing the Quran. Even though I'm fluent in Arabic and had memorised the Quran, I always felt a deep urge to perfect my Tajweed, especially seeing my mother read the Quran melodiously and precisely, Subhan'Allah. I wanted to read the same way.

When I decided to pursue learning Tajweed, I discovered many obstacles. I realised it wasn't just about learning, but finding the right way to learn Tajweed with a qualified teacher who was adept in their recitation of the Quran. This wasn't easy, even for someone with my background.

I tried everything...

I turned to translating Arabic YouTube videos, trying to fill the gaps, but they were confusing, inconsistent, and lacked proper structure. I also attended formal Tajweed classes, but they were long, rigid, and felt more focused on rules and textbooks than real understanding. I wondered if I would ever be able to find a way to recite the Quran with Tajweed. "Why is this still so hard?" I used to think.

A seed was planted..

After finding a teacher and learning Tajweed in Arabic, I realised teachers still adopted a very traditional way of teaching—heavy note-based theory with a lack of mnemonics and diagrams. That realisation planted the seed for Quran with Maryam; a space for clear, accessible, and effective Quran learning.

I wanted to create a space that combined traditional Quranic knowledge with modern, easy-to-follow teaching methods.

My platform Quran with Maryam is the platform I wish existed when I was trying to improve my Tajweed after memorising the Quran.

Tajweed Made Easy

I created "Tajweed Made Easy" to help people break free from rule-heavy lessons and instead learn through real examples, videos, mnemonics, colour and encouragement.

Learn to Read the Quran in Two Hours

I created "Learn to Read the Quran in Two Hours" for those who've spent years relying on transliteration or never had a chance to properly learn the Arabic script. This course is dedicated especially to my family and friends, who were mainly reverts and non-Arabic speakers, who feel left behind in their Quran journey. This pushed me to design programs that make the Quran feel within reach for everyone.

Insights from my Journey

Even after memorising the Quran, I struggled with self-doubt in my recitation, and that's when I realised how many others must feel the same.
I saw students carry unnecessary guilt, thinking they weren't "good enough" or "the Quran is too hard" when really, they just hadn't been taught properly.
Allah ﷻ says, "we have certainly made the Quran easy to remember, so is there anyone who will remember?" Tajweed isn't meant to be a source of stress: it's meant to bring us closer to the words of Allah.
I realised that one clear simple explanation could replace months of frustration and that's why I strive to keep the videos on my platform bite-sized and straight to the point.
As a mum, I knew that busy women (like me) needed short, effective lessons that respected their time and responsibilities.
That's when I said, "I have to be the one to create what I needed all those years ago."

Why this Matters to Me

Memorising the Quran gave me a lifelong connection to Allah's words, but learning to recite it beautifully brought me a profound sense of accomplishment - realising that I have perfected the Words of Allah ﷻ and what else deserves Ihsan, more than the Book of Allah?
I believe that every Muslim, regardless of background, deserves to feel confident and connected when they open the Quran.
I want to remove the fear and shame around recitation (along with the stereotype of strict and mean Quran teachers) and replace it with hope, genuine love for the Quran and closeness to Allah ﷻ.
I want to raise a generation of confident reciters, mums, children, reverts, all connected through the beauty of Allah's words.
